Chinese New Year Desserts

Chinese New Year Desserts are often considered to be extravagant desserts, but they actually serve a very important purpose during this period of the year. Chinese desserts often symbolize a happy, joyous life in China, and are necessary for a full New Year's celebration. This special sweet (often a savory sticky cake is also offered), luscious, sweet, almost melt-in-your-mouth cake is made with white sugar and glutinous rice dough.

Two popular chinese new year desserts are the Chinese New Year Fruit Cake and the Chinese Autumn Colors Cake. Both are made with the traditional Chinese ingredients of fruits and nuts, mixed with milk, eggs and soy. The fruit cake comes in different flavors like apple, grapes and orange, while the colors range from light yellow to deep orange and red. Both are decorated with flowers, lanterns, metal tea cups, long, thin metal spoons and other decorative items. The Fall Colors Cake is often made with apples, honey and cinnamon.

Another popular Chinese new year desserts are the Chinese Bread and Turnip Cake. This popular dessert is mainly made with eggs and sugar and has a crispy bottom. It can either be made with plain or dark sugar, although white sugar is mostly used for this particular recipe. The most common ingredients include the usual fillings such as fruits, chilies, meats, cheese and mushrooms as well as vegetable, yeast, flour, corn flour, eggs, soy and milk.

Another type of Chinese new year desserts are the Chinese Glutinous Rice Cakes and the Chinese Bread with Garlic and Oil. The Chinese glutinous rice cake is usually light in color and has a chewy top. It can also be dusted with white sugar and served chilled. This traditional Chinese food is considered to be very healthy because it contains a lot of protein, vitamins and iron. In addition, the carbohydrates are complex and deliver a good amount of dietary fiber and minerals.

The Chinese Red Bean Cake is another very popular Chinese New Year dessert. It is made with a mixture of three types of flour, namely whole wheat flour, maize flour, and red bean flour. Also added are flavoring materials like dried fruits, scented honey, mocha and raisins. It is usually served along with fruits, especially red beans.

The Chinese Frosty Cake is another popular Chinese new year's dessert. It is made by mixing icing sugar, butter and red bean starch or sweetened condensed milk and then freezing it. Once cooled, the cake may be folded into small square shaped cakes. When serving, it is normally served in a plastic cup with a silver bow on it.

The Chinese Cinnamon Sugar Dish is a Chinese take on the classic Christmas cake. However, instead of chocolate or vanilla, this dessert consists of cinnamon. It may either be made with white or brown sugar depending on the preference of the chef. Usually, cinnamon sugar is cooked and added to the dough. It is then cut into pieces and deep-fried.

Aside from these traditional Chinese New Year desserts, there are other popular Chinese desserts that are gaining wide popularity in the western world. Some of these include the more exotic ones such as the blueberry smoothie, the cinnamon rolls and the deep fried Mandarin oranges and grapefruit. Whatever type of Chinese sweet you want to try, just remember to indulge in moderation and it will surely do you good.

One of the most famous Chinese desserts in the west is the wheat grass pudding. Made with steamed white rice, egg whites and lotus seeds, this Chinese delicacy is extremely popular in Hong Kong and China. Usually, a box of wheat grass pudding contains a ton of different things. In addition to the dry white rice that makes up the base, there are a lot of fruits, veggies and nuts inside the box.

For the Chinese New Year, there is also the Chinese red bean cake. Unlike the American astringent, which may sound weird, the Chinese red bean cake is made with beans and flour. Instead of water, red bean paste is used to cook the beans along with the other ingredients. To add a hint of sweeter flavor, honey and sugar are added.
